The Snow:
|
Steamboat receives 330 inches of powder annually. Not just snow, but possibly the lightest snow on the planet. Steamboat's Park Mountain Range is the first barrier that Colorado storms have to rise over, resulting in frequent supercooled, moisture-laden orographic cloud formations. In other words we get big dumps of, what we call in Steamboat, Champagne Powder. Champagne Powder was coined years and years ago because of the lightness of the snow. Most of Colorado enjoys snow at about 10 percent moisture content, but Steamboat's average is 2.3 percent. |
Mavericks and the SoBe Terrain Park:
Maverick's is Steamboat's half-pipe, not just a pipe but the longest pipe in North America. The pipe was named after the big wave break in California. Maverick's became what it is now in 2001 and has been opening earlier than most half-pipes in Colorado due to the new snowmaking built aside Maverick's. Steamboat's terrain park was ranked #4 by Ski Magazine readers in the 2002 resort guide.

Kids Vacation for FREE in Steamboat:
Once again this year Steamboat is on top of the ranking for kids programs. In 1982 Steamboat pioneered the Kids Ski Free Program. This free program is good throughout the season and enables kids ages 6-12 to ski free the same number of days as their parents when a parent purchases a 5-or-more-day lift ticket. Not only do they ski for free, but any child under 12 also receives free rental equipment with each five-day parental adult rental. Kids and their safety are very important to us, they are the future of skiing and maybe the next Olympians.
